May 13th(3 hours)

I asked the students today what they thought of the project, they all really enjoyed it. I then asked how their Mother’s responded and they were so excited to tell me. One of the students said that their mom cried because they liked the stickers so much and another said that they got to put the card on the fridge at home. This made me really happy to hear. Today I left a little bit early because finals have been hard on me. But I’m almost done!!!

April 22nd (3 hours and 30 mins)

I have been working on the Mother’s Day cards and have a basic booklet printed out for the students to fill in, I plan to have the students draw, write and design illustrations within a 12 page staple bound booklet. As well as having the students draw an image of what they wish they could give to their mother’s this year. I will then take these images and print them as stickers and place them in the back pages of their booklets. We will start the books today and have the students work on them these next few weeks.

Today was another full day at Expo, nothing too crazy happened, it was literally another fun learning day with the students. I’m so close to knowing all of their names now, and it shows how the students respond better when they realize you are trying to make a connection with them. I have also talked with Ulla about the Mother’s Day cards and she is thrilled about them. I will work on a design latter this weekend and present the idea to the class on either Monday or Friday this up coming week.

April 19th (7 hours)

Today was my first full school day at Expo. It was a lot of fun!!!! In the morning Ulla played the piano and they practiced singing together and then afterwards the students worked on reading and writing assignments. Following a fun interactive math game that involved yellow squares that represented the number 1, and the students rolled dice to see who could gather the most squares to create 100. We then had snack time and recess.

I was asked by many of the children to play hide and seek on the gigantic playground that expo has. We ended up playing for 15 mins and then it was time to go back inside. we had another snack and then worked on other small assignments for the rest of the day.

Being apart of this classroom is so much fun, the students really make this kind of work interesting! Im excited to keep working with them these next few weeks!

Weeks 9 and 10: March 25th-April 7th

Weeks 9 and 10: March 25th-April 7th

Sadly I was not able to get into a groove of working with any teachers or shadowing mentors these past two weeks. I was very busy with other personal work that Im supper happy to tell you all about!!!

For the past week I have been preparing for the MCAD Merit Competition, as you all know my Major is 3D animation. So I had to find work that I was proud of to submit to the competition that fell within my Major here at MCAD. I ended up submitting some 2D experimental animations and then some 3D animation works, as well as my teaching artist lesson plan that I taught at PERPICH High School.

Long story short I got Second Place!!!!!!!!!!

I am so incredibly happy! If you want to view the works I submitted here they are below!

Enjoy!

March 8th (4 hours)

Today was my first day teaching in Cameron’s classroom, I created a pamphlet that had step by step directions for the students to follow along with. Overall, I think that my teaching style was calm and collected, giving the students help whenever they needed it. Very fun assignment that gave the students a more detailed and in depth idea of what Illustrator and After Effects can do.

I did this for two class periods from 12:00pm to 4:00pm . (4 Hours)

Spring Break March 15th-March 24th

Spring Break March 15th-March 24th

Total Hours This Week: (0)

For spring break I took a long deserved vacation in Boca Raton Florida!

I went to visit my friends and family, and everyday me and my friend Dylan Ubered to various different beaches! Soaking up the sun and the incredibly salty water. We went to South Inlet Beach as well as Hollywood Beach. I ended up getting a little bit burnt, but honestly I enjoyed the burn, anything was better than the Minnesota cold that I had escaped from! :)

We also managed to hop on a small charter boat that aloud us to fish off the coast! We didn’t have to bait our hooks or even take the fish off, the crew members had been trained to deal with all issues that may come up. Such as tangled lines, lost hooks, or even sea sick passengers. I managed to catch a Trigger Fish, and my friend Dylan ended up catching 2 Huuuge King Fish! Not to mention while on the boat we got to see sharks! It truly was a different kind of fishing than what we have here in Minnesota!

It was such a fantastic trip and I really wish that I could send this warm weather to all who are suffering from the Minnesota winter blues, but summer will be here sooner than you think just you wait!

Anyways I did a lot on this trip and I can honestly say It feels like I was only there for a day. It’s insane how fast these trips go by and I really wish I could have stayed just one more week.

Today I was helping students one on one with problems that had been arising within their almost finished walk cycles. Everyone has such a unique style that it was fun for me to see how they all worked in photoshop. Besides that it was a very productive work day and I think the students are finally comfortable enough with me that I can teach them something I know! I talked with Cameron and we think it would be in the classes best interest if I taught them how to use after effects to import their walk cycles. just some super easy techniques to get them started on something new.

I did this for two class periods from 12:30pm to 3:40pm . (3 hours and 20 mins)

February 15th (3 Hours and 20mins)

Today In Cameron’s class I went around and examined everyones walk cycles giving them critique, they had just started working on them so there wasn’t really that much for us to work with. I ended up asking the students what they wanted to do after HighSchool. I talked with them individually while I went around the room giving them tips and pointers for what might be useful information to them. After all I was in the same position as them only a few years ago. After a while we ended up showing different animation clips and styles that had influenced us throughout the years. Cameron also put clips on the projector to show the class while they continued to work.

Overall very productive day of getting to know the class and the teaching style of Cameron Browne.

I did this for two class periods from 12:30pm to 3:40pm . (3 hours and 20 mins)

February 5th (3 hours 10 mins)

Today I gave an in depth presentation of my career and path as an artist. I showed the students where I started and where I was now, showing them an overwhelming amount of my artwork. I think that the presentation went well and I even showed the students my original files on how the projects had been created. Giving them a better understanding of how I manage my time and workspace. After I was done presenting I asked for questions, which ended up taking the rest of the hour. With the little time that remained afterwards I went around and talked with the students to see what they had been working on. Getting to know them one on one.

I did this for two class periods from 12:30pm to 3:40pm . (3 hours and 10 mins)

Science Museum of Minnesota: Jan Elftmann

February 8th (3 Hours)

Today I went to the Science Museum of Minnesota to meet Jan Elftmann and her class full of kids. The students had been working on a marble run project that was meant to represent the force of gravity. Everyone had to use only the material laying around to create a track for the marble to run through. Materials consisted of pipe cleaners, tape, hot glue, construction paper, wooden dowels, plastic bottles, and plastic cups. With only the limitation of the children’s imagination the kids had to create a track that could keep the marbles moving for a total of 4 seconds. I watched and helped throughout the entire teaching lesson until everyone presented their creations. The students ended up doing a fantastic job and most of them created tracks that lasted more than the required 4 seconds.

My favorite part of today was seeing the students take action on problem solving. When the creation they made didn’t work, the students found or created a solution for the issue. Seeing everyone work so efficiently made me feel like this lesson plan was well thought out.

(Photos soon! Sorry I have them on my drive somewhere)

Science Museum of Minnesota: Jan Elftmann

February 1st (2 Hours)

I visited Jan Elftmann at the Science Museum of Minnesota this Friday (February 1st). She gave me an in depth tour of the Museum including the secret basement filled with exhibit builders and designers. I made connections with several people including a very interesting young man named Thai Chang. He works in the basement producing exhibits and fun products that the kids and parents can interact with. I also ended up meeting several MCAD Alums who have been working at the science museum for over 30 years now. Interesting enough the Science Museum has many employees who went to MCAD. It was such an amazing experience to meet and see people who are out working in the fields they graduated in. Also the equipment they had was beyond impressive. After visiting, I feel like I can definitely see myself working there someday.

I also ended up walking up and down the piano staircase a few times just because it was so cool!

Jan and I will meet again Friday the 8th at the SMM and I will get to help out with a marble run project for the kids. (10am-12pm)

I will meet with Cameron Browne the 5th and the 8th as well (12:30pm-3:30pm)

January 25th ( 1 hour 30 mins)

I had a meeting with Cameron Browne Friday morning 1/25/19 from 10am to 11:30am. We met at spy house near MCAD and talked about this up coming semester. We discussed what I should present to the students so that they can get a feel for who I am and what my life is like in a college environment. I will most likely present my stuff in a powerpoint showing them where I started and where I am now.
Cameron mentioned that we will be using Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects this semester in his class and he wants me to show the students stuff that I use for resources as well as how I use the resources within my own projects.

I will be seeing his class on Tuesday afternoon on the 5th of February. This will be my first time at PerPich and I will be there from 12:30pm to 3:30ish.

I will be meeting up with Jan Elftmann on the 1st of February (Friday) at 1:00pm at the Science Museum of Minnesota
