Residency - Barton Open School - Allison Rubin Forester - 6.00 Hours

Today was my first visit to Barton open school, and to me it’s unlike any other middle school I’ve seen. Allison’s classroom is bustling with kids that are welcome to interact and get help from their peers. The classroom looks like it doesn’t have assigned seats, which makes it easy for them interact with somebody different each day.  I can see there is a sense of collaboration in her classes (math and dance) by the classroom layout. It’s a major factor for collaboration to be in my teaching lesson because of this.

Her dance class is putting on a concert at the moment, so I was able to see what they’ve been working on for the last few weeks. I’m quite impressed with the work and effort they’ve put into it! It’d be cool to try to do something interactive with them through some web-based medium. Same goes for the Geometry class. I look forward to observing the class more and to get more ideas as to what I want to provide the kids in my teaching lesson.
