Beta DeFlorian

Wisconsin native currently based in Minneapolis, I am currently a full-time undergrad student pursuing my bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and minor in Teaching Art. My main body of work includes branding and packaging design, icon creation, and collage. As a result of this work, I was honored to have been chosen as the recipient of various awards at MCAD including The Design Department Merit Scholarship in 2019, and the Foundations Studies Merit Scholarship in 2018. I find joy in communicating with others, working on outside projects that inform my artistic practices, and pushing my limits. I look forward to seeing where these opportunities take me upon graduation in May of 2021.

Although my teaching art practice is primarily centered around working with very young children (preschool and kindergarten), I have a strong desire to work with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds. I also have a strong interest in working specifically with arts in healthcare and art integration in developing countries - with a goal of joining the Peace Corps within the next five years. Most of my projects stem from my graphic design education and are inclusive of symbols, color, and/or collage. A lot of my lessons are centered around an engaging and lighthearted approach to identity, communication, or wellness because I believe communicating without being bound by constraints such as language is crucial in today’s world and that we must celebrate who we are along with the creation of art.

Overall, I hope to foster wonder about the world, instill creativity in others, and be a positive role model for people of all ages, both near and far.
